More Information
This coming September, The Sway Machinery will unveil its latest creation: Hidden Melodies Revealed 2008 a secret celebration of Rosh HaShana. This multi-media concert/event celebrates the Jewish new year and the power of the cantorial music tradition in a presentation that is part ritual, part rock concert. Coming on the two nights of Rosh Hashana, Hidden Melodies Revealed will unleash an all-out party that is both joyful and transformative and will include storytelling, animated film, and a hint of mass hysteria.
The Sway Machinery's unique musical vision recontextualizes Ashkenazic Jewish spiritual music in the broader spectrum of the world of music, finding inspiration for new versions of Cantorial classics in African popular music and the blues. The band's powerhouse line-up of New York City greats (featuring members of Balkan Beat Box, Antibalas, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) brings pure fire to the stage.
Last year, The Sway Machinery premiered Hidden Melodies Revealed at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, leaving a standing room only audience on its feet and cheering. Building on the strengths of last year's performance, the band is preparing to bring this important project to a new level.

Hidden Melodies Revealed 2008 will feature the premiere of an animated film entitled Scenes from the Life of Ben Zion Kapov Kagan, written by band leader Jeremiah Lockwood and created by renowned artist Andrea Deszo. This piece, which integrataes stunning visual design with live narration and music, interprets the story of one of the greats of 20th century Cantoral music as an allegory for the spiritual journey undergone as we move from one year to the next. Also featured will be a reprise of Guggenheim fellow Shawn Atkin's film The Akeidah, which was premiered at last year's Hidden Melodies Revealed.
